'At my workplace there's big anti-cat energy': Cat Parent Employee Clashes with Dog-Loving Coworkers Over Feline Criticism

Hey, cat lovers. How do you approach a workplace dilemma over something near and dear to your heart? You might even find it absolutely absurd. We try to keep the workplace as civil as possible, but sometimes we can't help but raise an eyebrow at some of the things that are said. The original poster of the thread we are featuring today has noticed a bizarre rift in their workplace regarding self-proclaimed dog lovers of the office spouting some serious anti-feline energy. Interesting, eh? 

Over here at ICanHasCheezburger, it's no secret that we are obsessed with all things feline. How could anyone not become immediately enamored with their feline charm? We may never understand, but we can try to at least be kind to others with differing opinions. Unlike the not-so-thoughtful co-workers of the original poster of this piece.     Okay, that's an extremely valid take by OP. Why do you have to be one at the expense of the other? Can't we all recognize the immense value that both cats and dogs have in our lives?

    because I have a cat. They all think cats are mean and evil meanwhile my sweet little tuxedo is so nice a cuddly. While yeah some cats are a-holes and know a few dogs with attitude problems too. I guess I just have to be the crazy cat lady in a hostile world of dog people.

    Safe-Key-3583 . 6d ago. I was a dog person my whole life had a serious mouse issue.Got a cat who straightened that mess out. Then I thought he needs some company and got another one 10 years later and I can't imagine life without them.

    FantasticMeddler . 6d ago Edited 6d ago Cats and Dogs fulfill different roles historically. Cats are old school pest control and Dogs are for security. In most situations, especially in apartment renting, a cat makes sense most of the time. When I see people having to walk their tiny cooped up dog 3x a day who barks at anything that passes by their tiny apartment I feel bad for the dog, the owner, and the entire complex. But a cat just be chilling. A dog makes sense in a large house environment

    anar_noucca • 6d ago. Everyone is a cat person. But some are in a sleeper state and need to spend some days with a cat to have their inner cat person waking up. Ask me how I know it.

    I am glad you asked. I was that person. For my entire life I said that I am a dog person, that I have nothing against cats, I just don't find them interesting as pets. I've never had a cat, and my grandparents had feral cats that lived around the house and never interacted with us, they just caught the mice.

    I can't tell you which is best, a dog or a cat. They are completely different but also so similar. I think they fit like two puzzle pieces that fill the gap in my heart for love. Why did I think I was a dog person? Someone said it already: stereotypes. Dogs are portrayed as smart, loving, trainable, "man's best friend", while cats are seen as mean, too independent, not being able to feel love.

Some breeds are cute in pics but the slobber, the barking, the stench, did I mention the slobber?!? No thank you Imao. People treat cats like dogs then are surprised when the cat doesn't like. them. A cat isn't going to love you just because you exist, their affection is earned. IDT dog people like that.

    Dogs are valued as protectors and work animals in addition to being companion animals, whereas cats are generally known as companion animals only (unless they're being used for pest control, in which case they're probably less socialized than their domestic counterparts).

    I've found that many of same dog people i know who can't stand cats also have plenty of negative things to say about small dogs that don't fit a traditionally "manly" lifestyle or aesthetic. The rules of toxic masculinity pretty much dictate that anything cute and not productive isn't manly, and anything that isn't manly is feminine, and anything that's feminine is bad.

    Feeling-Dinner-8667 6d ago . . Not to hate on dog people, but they tend to crave attention or a sense of being needed and security. By having something depend on you for many aspects of their life, there becomes a sense of purpose. This creates a bond similar to family.

    Cats are more tricky because they are more independent and everything is usually by their terms. They seem to be more difficult to read as well. The reason I prefer cats is because they are easier to train to use the toilet, they don't smell as bad as dogs, they are less. needy. This allows a better work life balance IMO.

    ipini 6d ago • • Cats require more understanding and "negotiation" than dogs. You can't simply control them. And they reward love with love in different ways than dogs. Most cat people understand that and can then extend that paradigm to other beings (including dogs and even other people).
